commafruit.co.uk. welcome.

AMD-ATI (or rather, just AMD now), announce “Fusion”. The gist of this is that it’s a CPU and a GPU on a single chip. This should be great for desktops using 3D, and requiring hardware acceleration (I might look into installing Beryl), and for media center PC’s. Hence I’m quite interested in this news.
I have previously favoured nVidia for graphics, but if this Fusion takes off, maybe I’ll reconsider. Especially if ATI AMD offer adequate Linux driver support.

Sony lawsuits force Lik-Sang out of business. Sony’s PR/general attitude to the rest of the world really is disgraceful, I’m keener than ever to avoid them now. (Says he with a PS2 in his living room, and plans to add games to it…)

I’ve been thinking about obtaining a copy of The Oblongsw, and am now convinced by the idea, having read this except from “Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children”, by the same author. Very cool drawing style.

Warning Signs is a flickr set of possible “future warning signs”. I wonder if “lack of internet connectivity” will ever warrant a warning sign… [via]

Horizontal Biscuits

It has come to my attention that biscuits of any quality tend to be packaged horizontally, that is, in a few small piles. Therefore, I would like to introduce the phrase “horizontal biscuit”, which refers not to the current orientation of the sweet, but to how it was packaged. This in turn then, implies that the biscuit is of a certain quality.

Gawker is a cool little app which lets you make time-lapse videos like the one below (unfortunately it’s OSX only). Also, this post is mostly to try out embedding a YouTube video :).

BYO PVR

I’ve been taking a great interest in either using my PC as, or building my own, PVR. Naturally, I would prefer to use Linux for this purpose, and so my attention had been drawn recently to MythTV, but now Elisa has caught my eye. It’s rather immature right now, but the plans for it sound great - with VoIP/videoconferencing as a core feature. With the recent new release of MythTV and the general enthusiasm in this area, I’m reassured that by the time I get around to doing anything for this I’ll be able to :).

On the Perks of being a Web Developer

Today at the office, I unexpectedly received a bottle of Mummw in the post! This turned out to be from one of the London offices, given as thanks for the work on a (relatively minor!) project* I did a couple of weeks ago. Suppose it pays to try to provide good service on all things, as you never know what benefits there’ll be!

* I built (that is to say, I installed and configured the excellent Snitz) the forum component of the new Yours.co.uk website.

Article on Slashdot entitled “Google in Talks to Buy YouTube” (which in itself is interesting, eh?), then directly underneath that is linked, “Related Stories: Only a ‘Moron’ Would Buy YouTube“. Well we shall see!
